On Monday 28 September at the Labour Party Conference in Brighton, Sports Minister Gerry Sutcliffe is due to speak at a fringe meeting, which is being hosted by the British Association for Shooting and Conservation (BASC), the main promoter of bird shooting in the country.
He has spoken at such an event before, but when Animal Aid went to his constituency to protest, he told his local newspaper: ‘I do not support killing birds…. saying I support cruel shooting is simply not correct.’
His scheduled speech at this year’s event may appear to contradict this. If the Minister does not support shooting birds, then he should not be seen to endorse such cruelty by speaking at a BASC event.
Please urge the Minister to decline the invitation to speak at the meeting by emailing him here:Â Gerry Sutcliffe MP, Sports Minister
