Get snares ban on every political manifesto!

Posted on the 1st February 2023

On 9 January 2023, a Westminster Hall debate on banning snares took place, with the majority of the MPs speaking at the debate backing our call for a ban.

The debate came about as a direct result of the 100,000+ people who signed our government petition calling for a ban on these disgracefully cruel traps.

It is estimated that more than a million animals, including foxes and badgers, are killed by these horrific devices every year. Even cats and dogs become trapped in them and suffer unimaginable pain and sometimes death.

At the end of the debate, however, the Minister gave no commitment that the government will bring in a ban – despite the huge level of support for such a move from MPs, members of the public and organisations such as the RSPCA, the Woodland Trust and the British Veterinary Association amongst others.

What’s next? Ahead of the next General Election, we are asking all political parties to pledge to ban snares as part of their manifestos.

Let’s keep the momentum on this campaign going – take action straight away and let’s show politicians that only a commitment to ban snares will do!

Thank you.
