This summer, Animal Aid adverts revealing the truth about pig farming were displayed prominently to hundreds of thousands of commuters, tourists and day trippers at London’s busy King’s Cross station. The campaign included huge, printed adverts which ran in the last two weeks of July, and digital adverts which ended on the 14 August. We also took to the roads of London with an eye catching advertising van. Let's take a look back at the campaign and positive feedback we received.
To mark the start of the King’s Cross advertising campaign, we held an interactive outreach event inside King’s Cross Station. We were excited to collaborate with independent vegan baker, Joy, who founded the compassionate Joyful Kitchen*. Joyful kitchen creates decadent, delicious, vegan versions of all your favourite cakes. Joy kindly provided us with 300 delicious and beautifully decorated piggy cupcakes (have you guessed what the ads are about yet?) to give away to passers-by who take our quiz on – that’s right! – pig farming.
We are so grateful to the activists who joined us at the event to help out and talk to members of the public. People were shocked to learn the truth about pig farming, and we had some really positive and interesting reactions to our adverts. Many people were shocked to learn of standard pig farming practices such as mutilations and the use of farrowing crates. One mother conveyed her horror at the thought of being confined and unable to freely interact with her babies. We even had vegans stop to take our quiz, and many learned something new about the realities of pig farming.
We had amazing reactions to the vegan cupcakes; people exclaiming they were “delicious” and “beautiful” and even some pledges to try going vegan as a result of our discussions.
The digital ads were on rotation (with other adverts) from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day! We have received many positive comments from commuters and supporters. Keep an eye on our socials over the next few weeks to see some of the comments we received.

We hope our advertising campaign will help to shed light on the realities of animal farming and encourage people to go vegan so that animals can have a good life!
