In two weeks’ time – on the so-called Glorious Twelfth – shooters will start blasting innocent grouse from the skies.
Aside from the obvious cruelty of using birds for target practice, the shooting industry is responsible for the destruction of wildlife deemed to be a threat to the short-term survival of the grouse, such as foxes and crows and raptors. The industry also causes ecological damage to our precious uplands by burning heather.
You can help raise public awareness of this cruel, unnecessary and destructive industry by ordering and distributing leaflets ahead of 12 August.
And, if you are free on Saturday 10th August, then you may want to head over to Hen Harrier Day at Carsington Water in Derbyshire, where Animal Aid Patron, Chris Packham, will be amongst the guest speakers at the event. Building on the momentum of the Restore Nature Now! march in London in June, the event will bring together a huge number of passionate people in order to send a clear message to the government that our environment needs decisive action.
