112 horses killed and 299 abuses of whip regulations in first 6 months of 2024

Shocking figures obtained by Animal Aid show that 112 horses were killed on British racecourses from January – June 2024, and there were 299 abuses of the whip.

Animal Aid work tirelessly to track every horse who is killed on British and Irish racecourses, and record these on our respective Death watch sites. We also collate whip data as published on the British Horseracing Authority (BHA)’s website.

The 6-month figures demonstrate inherent and unrelenting cruelty towards race horses.
