The Royal Veterinary College’s animal experiments: ask them to stop!

Posted on the 6th April 2016

The Royal Veterinary College (RVC) has bred a colony of dogs with a genetic flaw, leading them to suffer a canine version of Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD). They will be killed when just 18 months of age.

Shockingly, the Muscular Dystrophy experiments are just a small part of the animal research activity undertaken at the RVC. Animal Aid has discovered that more than 9,000 ‘procedures’ were conducted in 2014, on animals as diverse as dogs, cats, fish and salamanders.

Please let the RVC know how shocked and disappointed you are with their programme of animal experimentation. Their job as a veterinary college is to heal not harm animals, especially when evidence is mounting to show that information obtained from animal ‘models’ cannot be reliably applied to human medicine. Even where the same species is involved, for instance when dogs are used in an attempt to produce a useful medicine for other dogs, the experiments produce unreliable results because of the stressful, unnatural laboratory conditions, and the artificial methods used to produce a version of the illness.
