This is a list of sanctuaries with large and/or farmed animals but there are many, many more sanctuaries out there doing great work.
(This list was prepared in 2011, to accompany an article suggesting giving a donation to an animal sanctuary instead of a material gift at Christmas. The links have been updated in May 2018, but may not be in the future.)
