Badger cull – don’t give up the fight!

Posted on the 2nd April 2013

The government has announced that the badger cull will go ahead, and is likely to start on June 1st. This is despite many eminent scientists and wildlife experts opposing the cull. Opinion polls show the majority is also decisively opposed and, in October 2012, MPs voted to abandon the cull by 147 to just 28 votes.

Animal Aid has teamed up with Viva! and Gloucestershire Against Badger Shooting in a postcard campaign. The cards are addressed to Oliver Letwin, the government’s Policy Minister, and state: Badgers have friends… and those friends have votes.

That is the message we are taking to the street ahead of the May 2nd council elections. Lush – that wonderful campaigning cosmetics company – is supporting this initiative in all its shop windows in the run-up to the election.

Our converted ambulance will go to the cull zones – Somerset and Gloucestershire – mid April to rally local support, and we will show a brand new film on its screen.
