Cosmetics and Toiletries

Beauty without Cruelty eye shadowTesting cosmetics and their ingredients on animals became illegal across the European Union as of 2009, and as of March 2013, the EU introduced a complete ban on the sale of cosmetics that had been newly tested on animals elsewhere. This is a tremendous achievement, but there are still companies selling products here that also sell products outside of the EU that have been tested on animals. Buying products that display the ‘Leaping Bunny’ logo the best way to ensure that you are buying from a company that does not engage in animal testing anywhere. Clothing

tshirtMillions of animals are farmed, hunted, abused and killed to make clothing, footwear and accessories. Most people understand that the fur trade is cruel, fur farming has been banned in the UK since 2003, and many other countries have done the same. However, the sale of real fur is still legal and most of it is mis-sold as faux. Ensure any faux fur you buy is actually fake, and avoid purchasing leather, wool and other animal-based clothing.

Whilst it has been illegal to hunt foxes with packs of dogs in England and Wales since 2005, hunts still flout this law and continue to kill foxes and other animals for fun. As well as this, tens of millions of birds, such as pheasants, partridges and ducks, are purpose bred to be shot for sport. In addition to hunting and shooting, animals are exploited and killed in the horse racing, greyhound racing, angling, circus and zoo industries.
