A herd of cows produces more greenhouse gas in a year than a family car produces in a decade, according to a new Portsmouth University study. Methane has a greater effect on global warming than carbon dioxide and remains in the atmosphere for longer. Dr Andy Thorpe, who led the study, said that methane is responsible for one-fifth of global warming experienced since 1750. Up to 70 per cent of the gas comes from farming animals.
A diet free from all animal products is the kindest to the planet. It is also healthy and nutritious, and does not cause animals to suffer. Taking this simple step can have far-reaching and very positive consequences!
