Help campaign against the cruelty of gamebird shooting

Posted 30 September 2009

October 1 marked the start of the pheasant shooting season, during which millions of birds will be frightened into the air to be shot at by heartless, wealthy individuals.

Every year, more than 40 million pheasants and partridges are purpose-bred for the shooting industry. Around 18 million birds are shot and retrieved, whilst millions more will die from their wounds, starvation, predation or under the wheels of cars.

Please take a moment to help us with the campaign by urging your MP to sign an Early Day Motion which calls for a ban on the production of birds for ‘sport’ shooting. Here is a letter to your MP - just fill in your name and address at the bottom of the letter, and send it back to Animal Aid’s office.

You may also like to write to your local paper, using this template as a guide. Letters published in local papers have the potential to reach tens of thousands of readers.

Lastly, please contact Fiona if you’d like to do some leafleting, collect petition signatures or run an anti-shooting street stall.
