CHRISTMAS WITHOUT CRUELTY 2003 - The feelgood event of the year!
Posted 1 November 2003
Sunday 23rd November, 10am-5pm, Kensington Town Hall, Hornton Street, Kensington, London W8
This year marks the tenth anniversary of our Christmas Without Cruelty Fayre. Each year the event has grown in reputation, reflected by visitor numbers that have more than doubled.
The Fayre has followed the same basic formula since it began in 1994, but with the addition of a number of activities and culminating in 2001 with expansion into the entire three floors of Kensington Town Hall. Features this year include a full programme of lectures and videos, face painting, delicious food to sustain you while you shop, and the ever-popular celebrity auction. Thus, the day provides stimulation for taste buds and brain alike!
More than 70 stands... plus great food
At the Fayre on Sunday 23 November there will be more 72 cruelty-free stands for you to enjoy and shop till you drop. It's a unique opportunity to buy all your Christmas gifts and at the same time to support ethical companies, pressure groups and charities.
As usual there will also be a scrumptious spread of vegan food from our special caterers to excite your taste buds. Leon Lewis will again be providing his fantastic 'Leonese Feast', served on edible plates - the ultimate in recycling! In addition we have Cavanagh's delicious hot dishes, soups and drinks, plus wonderful vegan cakes and snacks - courtesy of Ronny and Veggies.
This year we are delighted to welcome André Menache to give two talks during the day. André, fresh from his success in Israel in obtaining a court ban on the force feeding of geese, is a veterinary surgeon and was, for seven years, the President of Doctors and Lawyers for Responsible Medicine. He has also been Scientific Advisor to the South African Association Against Painful Experiments on Animals and is currently Vice-President of ProAnima, the medical anti-vivisection group based in France.
Another highlight will be our annual silent celebrity auction, giving you the opportunity to bid for an array of unique Christmas gifts donated to Animal Aid by public figures and ethical companies.
Our professional auctioneer - who created such a fantastic atmosphere last year - will also hold a special auction of the top 12 items. Anyone unable to stay for the duration may submit a sealed bid that will be taken into consideration.
Special items of note donated over the years include a gold disc from Chrissie Hynde and the Pretenders; a handwritten book of poems by Benjamin Zephaniah; a pantomime script and a lock of hair from Julian Clary; a One Foot in the Grave Script signed by Richard Wilson; a pennant signed by the entire Arsenal team; a handbag designed by Stella McCartney; and signed books by Alan Bennett, Tony Benn, Virginia McKenna and others.
Already received for this year's extravaganza are signed CDs from Alisha's Attic, Phil Collins, Craig David and Status Quo; signed books from Jilly Cooper and Alexei Sayle; a signed script from The Bill series; and hand-drawn t-shirt designs by Chrissie Hynde and Sean Hughes.
A fantastic day out
This fantastic day out provides the chance to meet old friends and make new ones, purchase all your cruelty-free gifts under one roof in a congenial and friendly atmosphere, be stimulated by lectures and videos, pick up literature and information from campaigning groups and indulge in wicked vegan cuisine. This is one day in the year you can guarantee there will be no animal products or ingredients anywhere in sight.
So make a note in your diary now. The Animal Aid Christmas Without Cruelty Fayre really is the place to be this Christmas.
