First horse death at Britain’s newest racecourse
Posted 9 September 2009
‘Older And Wiser’ became the first equine victim at Britain’s newest racecourse, Ffos Las, following an horrific fall.
On 28 August the 7 year old grey gelding travelled over from Ireland to race at the new Welsh course’s second jump race meeting. The horse fell in the closing stages of a 3 mile novice hurdle race and sustained serious injuries. Older And Wiser did not recover and, sadly, died a few days later.
Animal Aid's Race Horse DeathWatch was launched in March 2007 in order to keep a public record of every Thoroughbred killed on British racecourses. It was initiated because the racing authorities refuse to put such information into the public domain.
Older And Wiser’s death brings the total number of horses killed since March 2007 to 429.
