Take Action on Foie Gras

Posted 22 November 2013

Foie gras production is illegal in the UK and causes immense suffering to geese. A PETA campaign asks us all to take action by urging Fortnum & Mason to be stripped of its Royal Warrant as long as it sells this "torture in a tin".

Department store Fortnum & Mason has become notorious in recent years for continuing to sell foie gras – a highly unethical product which is made by force-feeding ducks and geese until their livers become diseased.

Fortnum & Mason's decision to sell foie gras is incompatible with the standards that the Royal Warrants demand, including:

  • Businesses must ensure that "all suppliers are Red Tractor certified at minimum".
  • Businesses must be "working with suppliers to encourage higher welfare standards, promoting RSPCA Freedom Foods or equivalent assurances".
