Israel Bans Animal-Tested Products
Posted 9 January 2013
Campaigners across the world have welcomed new legislation in Israel, which has banned the import and sale of any cosmetics, personal care or household products that have been tested on animals. Passed in 2010, the law came into effect on January 1, but will only be fully realised when the EU marketing ban on animal-tested products is implemented.
Retailers will not be required to discard products they already have, and provisions have been made for the continued import of some products until 2015, when all products imported and sold within Israel must be cruelty-free. The EU ban was scheduled to take effect in 2013, but there is a possibility of the deadline being extended, or exceptions being introduced.
