Day of Action for Primates: a tremendous success

Posted 15 November 2006

Saturday 18th was Animal Aid’s Day of Action for Primates and it was a huge success.

Supporters took to the streets in almost 40 towns and cities around the UK and collected thousands of signatures on petitions and postcards from sympathetic members of the public. The EU’s vivisection laws are currently being updated and they want to see a total ban on monkey research as part of that process.

A big ‘thank you’ to everyone who took part in the Day of Action. You kicked off Animal Aid’s campaign in style! But this is just the beginning and there is much more to be done.

Please continue to order postcards and petitions and collect signatures from family members and friends. Contact Kate to order these resources. And don’t forget to return them to the office as soon as they are complete!

And email your MEPs (we all have more than one) and urge them to sign Written Declaration 0064 as soon as possible. In order for a primate ban to be included in European legislative debates, 350 MEPs must sign this Written Declaration before January 18th 2007.

EU legislation 86/609 is our best hope for ending experiments on primates and we have a limited timeframe to work in, so please do all you can to support this campaign.
