As part of our submission to Solihull MBC, we produced a video which sets out our case against the NEC bird market.
Since 1859, 'Cage & Aviary Birds' - now owned by IPC Ltd - has held annual exhibitions and markets in which mostly wild-caught birds are publicly displayed and traded.
Despite a 1983 change in British law to end pet animal markets, Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council has allowed these events to continue. So far, the organisers and traders have avoided prosecution for operating a pet market. A single market may involve 70,000 birds which means that the history of this event involves literally millions of sensitive animals being treated like this...
